So Proud of My Mom-Saskatchewan Published Author

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

This past weekend I was able to get away from the busy Saskatoon real estate market to spend time with my family in Estevan, Saskatchewan and be there to support my mother, Saskatchewan Author, Marie Donais Calder.

To learn more about her books, visit her website at

For a schedule of events you can visit

My mom has written a series of books about Post World War II and the life of her father, Edmond Donais, and the first one has been published by a Canadian Publisher. She has been working on these books for over 10 years now and her first book launch in her small home town was a great success.

Her perseverance and dedication have paid off. As a realtor in Saskatoon I have learned a lot from my mother and have been lucky enough to have a mom with such a great attitude. It is most often through the influence our parents that we become who we are and I know I couldn’t be such a successful real estate agent in Saskatoon if I didn’t have such great parents.

So congrats to my mom! She has several dates booked for her other signings around the province so contact me if you would like more information.

South Bridge Comes in Under Budget!!

Monday, April 5th, 2010

I am very happy to hear that something came in under budget for once in Saskatoon. This one has a great impact on all citizens of Saskatoon, but also on real estate agents in Saskatoon as we drive around the city so much showing houses for sale in Saskatoon and listing houses for sale in Saskatoon and area.

In an article in the Star Phoenix last week it was stated that Graham Construction and Flatiron Construction Corp. would be awarded the most expensive in Saskatoon’s history for a public project. In the end, the cost will be between $30 million and $40 million below the estimate given 4 years ago.

Completion is slated for October 2012 and as a realtor in Saskatoon I cannot tell you how excited I am about that! It will save time when driving around with my Saskatoon home buyers showing them houses for sale in Saskatoon.

The one thing I am not looking forward to, as a real estate agent in Saskatoon, is the contruction zones in certain Saskatoon neighbourhoods and the inevitable slowing down of traffic and detours while the bridge is being built.

The other area that is proposed to get a makeover is the intersection of Circle Drive and Preston Avenue. With the amount of new homes in Stonebridge and the huge increase of population in Stonebridge, this intersection is getting overwhelmed and unsafe.

If you are interested in buying one of the houses for sale in Saskatoon or if you are just starting to get a feel for the Saskatoon real estate market, contact me for all of your Saskatoon real estate needs. If you are thinking about selling a house in Saskatoon I would love the opportunity to show you why it would be best to put your house for sale in Saskatoon with me as your Saskatoon real estate professional.

C21-#1 Fundraiser in Canada Award Goes to C21 Saskatoon!

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

I am proud to be one of 62 realtors with Century 21 in Saskatoon! CREA (The Canadian Real Estate Association) has ranked Century 21 Conexus Realty in Saskatoon as the #1 Fundraiser in Canada…since 2004!

What does that mean? That means our company has beat out every other company, organization, etc across the country in our fundraising efforts for EVERY fundraiser held by every real estate organization in the country, for 6 years in a row!

Century 21 in Saskatoon  and the Century 21 realtors in Saskatoon, along with all of the support staff and their families, have raised funds for Easter Seals Camps. In the summer the 24 hour relay raised almost $40,000 and in September the popular “Easter Seals Drop Zone” raised more than $12,000. Realtors in Saskatoon with Century 21 and support staff alike harnessed themselves to the side of a high rise building and rappel downwards. But not this Saskatoon realtor ®. I prefer to stand and cheer on my fellow Saskatoon realtors and our amazing support staff. They support us in our daily jobs but also join in the support to send more than 6000 kids with disabilities annually to camp in 22 locations.

Way to go Century 21 in Saskatoon! If you want to help support Easter Seals then you can buy or sell a house through a Century 21 representitive in Saskatoon.

Gene Simmons of KISS to Speak in Saskatoon

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

Can’t get tickets to see KISS on November 10th? Feeling a bit too old to rock out anyways? You can see him speak at the Saskatchewan Young Professionals and Entrepreneurs luncheon on November 11th, the day after the Kiss concert in Saskatoon.

With great thanks to a friend of mine, Janea Bellay (who is also a great life and health insurance and mutual funds advisor in Saskatoon), SYPE has landed Gene Simmons to speak as he knows about business, marketing and he is also a great entrepreneur.

Way to go Janea!

For more information or tickets to this Saskatoon event, see below:

The business luncheon runs from noon to 1:30 p.m. at TCU Place, with doors opening at 11:30 p.m. The event includes a question-and-answer session with Simmons. Tickets cost $75 plus GST. They can be purchased at

Maybe I should go and see if Gene Simmons wants to buy a house for sale in Saskatoon . After all, his long time partner, Shannon Tweed, is from Saskatoon.

3 New Cougar Kitties Call Saskatoon Home

Monday, July 27th, 2009

One of the newest groups to find a home in Saskatoon are 3 cougar kittens. These kittens will be on display at the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park and Zoo in the Children’s zoo. They were removed from their aggressive mom in the Cypress Hills Region. Park Officials removed the cubs and they are now being fostered here in Saskatoon. They are about 8 weeks old and arrived at their new home in Saskatoon in early June. They have been hand-raised by staff since their arrival and will be ready for viewing this Saturday, July 11. Come down with your family to welcome the new cubs to their new Saskatoon home.

3rd Annual Bridge City Boogie-Huge Success

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

The Bridge City Boogie in Saskatoon started in 2007 with 831 people taking part. By 2008 there were almost 1700 people in Saskatoon who took part in this event. This year had an overwhelming 4415 participating with another 545 volunteers to make sure the event went off without a hitch. This means just under 5000 people helped make this Saskatoon event possible and successful, almost at the 5000 goal that organizers had hoped for after 5 years…and it is only year 3!

The Saskatoon Bridge City Boogie saw more than 4400 people of all ages and abilities running, walking, wheeling or being wheeled this year. Ages ranged from toddlers to the elderly and entire families participated in this Saskatoon Star Phoenix sponsored event. The rising number of participants means that people in our area are doing what it takes to live a healthy lifestyle while promoting community involvement. This is an event that makes it possible for everyone to participate, not like marathons and running events, so the turnout should increase each year. There were many healthy role models at this Saskatoon event for our youth to look up to, including some people who completed the 2, 5 and 10 kilometre events in their wheelchairs. Other role models are the parents and grandparents who are physically active and who are active with their children and grandchildren.

Not only is this Saskatoon event fun, it is also a non-profit event that raised close to $40,000 this year for 3 Saskatoon Charities; The Saskatoon Crisis Nursery, The Boys and Girls Clubs of Saskatoon, and Can-West Raise a Reader, which funds local literacy groups.

Out of the participants, 70% were female and 30% male so next year hopefully we see more men out there taking part in the Saskatoon Bridge City Boogie! The largest team was the Holy Cross Crusaders with 153 participants. Saskatoon Century 21 Conexus also had a team, but I am sad to say that I was not part of the Century 21 Conexus Bridge City Boogie team this year as I was busy with my Saskatoon open houses and selling houses for sale in Saskatoon…2009 I hope to help add to those numbers!

Saskatoon is a great community minded city and I am proud to be a part of such a great city.

Annual Pride Parade – City of Saskatoon’s Largest Yet

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

Saturday June 13, 2009 saw the best turn out for Saskatoon’s Pride Parade. The 2 city block long train of rainbow flag carriers and Saskatoon GLBT crowd at the parade was the most attended of the week long pride festivities. Pride week is showing that Saskatoon is a tolerant and accepting community of all individuals, lifestyles and sexual orientations. Amongst the booths during pride week you could find the City of Saskatoon Police service as well as some church groups who were there to show their support of the Saskatoon GLBT community.

Despite the support of the local Saskatoon GLBT crowd, we are missing support from the average citizen. I do believe that the city of Saskatoon is GLBT friendly overall, but the general public needs to do more to support this vibrant community as it is just one of the many groups who help form our city and who help make Saskatoon what it is.

I am happy to say that I am a GLBT friendly realtor in Saskatoon and I invite individuals from the GLBT community in Saskatoon who are looking to buy or sell to speak to me about the process. I am always open to working with individuals from all walks of life and am a GLBT friendly realtor in Saskatoon.

Beyonce In Saskatoon

Saturday, April 4th, 2009

I have been fortunate to see quite a few concerts in Saskatoon and I recently went to see Beyonce in Saskatoon. This was, by far, the best concert I have seen in my life! Beyonce was incredible with many wardrobe changes (albeit some of her choices were not my favorites!) and incredible energy, vocals and dance moves. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy myself so much and it honestly snuck up on me…but I wouldn’t hesitate to go back to see her again and again as the entertainment value was unbelievable.

She played all of my faves and even a few tributes to Canadian singers like Sarah McCloghlin and Alanis Morrissette.

You can tell she is passionate about what she does and she puts so much energy and love into her performance that it was absolutely contagious. I looked hard to see if she was lip synching as I didn’t think any singers voice could sound that amazing live…and if she was pulling a Brittany Spears I sure as heck couldn’t tell! She had the crowd dancing and singing and it was overall a very good atmosphere of people having fun.

It is so nice to see huge names coming to Saskatoon to perform. We have had some really big names in the past year.

I know the Eagles concerts in early March brought in people from all over this part of Canada/US and I am sure our enthusiasm and appreciation will keep bands like this coming back for more. Now that Saskatoon is getting bigger hopefully more big names will keep coming to our great city and bringing us their music and acts.

Saskatoon Premiere Wine Tasting 2008

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

For the 2nd year in a row I have had the pleasure of taking in the Premiere Wine Tasting Festival at TCU Centre (used to be knows as the Centennial Auditorium) in Saskatoon.
Century 21 in Saskatoon is a sponsor of the event, so our presence is already there, but I just like to go for the wine, food and fun in Saskatoon. Of course, as a Saskatoon real estate agent I can never stop talking about work and people are always asking about the Saskatoon real estate market, but it is a fun environment in which to network and mingle and try a few new products.  It was also great to see so many Saskatoon real estate agents out and about having fun!
There are more and more venues which attract a more mature audience for nightlife in Saskatoon, and this is one of the most popular ones. You get to sample some of the best wines from around the world as well as aperitifs, a few selections of beers, hard alcohol and of course, shooters. Some of Saskatoon’s best restaurants also provide a sampling of some of their top food and desert items. It is probably better to eat a snack at home or at a restaurant in Saskatoon before you come out as the portions are small but tasty!
They even have a band that plays, but you cannot seem to hear anything upstairs in the tasting hall. This year Jump Me Martha, a local Saskatoon Jazz band, played.
So, if you are looking for something to do in the fall in Saskatoon, make sure to purchase your tickets to the Premiere festival as early as you can as they sell out fast.
